Introduction to power Bi
Introduction
Microsoft Power BI is a business intelligent tool which allows you to connect various data resources and work together. It allows us to connect data from,Excel,Web,SQL Server, text files and more then 100 data sources we can connect to power bi.We can load the data, transform the data and build reports and dashboards according to the user needs.
Parts of Power BI
- Power BI Desktop
- Power BI Service
- Mobile apps
The Power BI Desktop is a Microsoft Windows Desktop appliction, and all the reports, visuals, dashboards created in Power BI Desktop are published in Power BI Service which is a online Saas(Software as a Service).
What is Power BI Desktop?
Power BI Desktop is an application that you download and install for free on your local computer. Desktop is a complete data analysis and report creation tool that is used to connect to, transform, visualize, and analyze your data. It includes the Query Editor, in which you can connect to many different sources of data, and combine them (often called modeling) into a data model. Then you design a report based on that data model. Reports can be shared with others directly or by publishing to the Power BI service.
What is Power BI Service?
The Power BI service is a cloud-based service, or software as a service (SaaS). It supports report editing and collaboration for teams and organizations. You can connect to data sources in the Power BI service, too, but modeling is limited. The Power BI service is used to do things such as creating dashboards, creating and sharing apps, analyzing and exploring your data to uncover business insights, and much more.
Uses of Power BI
- It is used to connect with N number of data resources
- Build reports, Dashboards
- Create visuals
- Create data model
- Create relationship with one or more data resources
- Share the reports using Power BI Service
Views in Power BI Desktop
- Report View: In this view we can create reports and visuals.
- Data View:Here in this view we can see the data we have loaded from various sources, see measures, transformed data, and other data used in data model.
- Model View:In this view we can manage the data relationship and build relationship with two or more tables.
Below is the three views available in Power BI Desktop
Common Flow Of Power BI
- Bring the data into Power BI Desktop and create reports
- Publish to the Power BI Service, were you can create new visualizations or build dashboards
- Share dashboards to others like organizations or customers on the go.
- View and interact with shared reports and dashboards in Power BI Mobile
Building Blocks of Power BI
Here are the basic building blocks in Power BI:
- Visualizations
- Datasets
- Reports
- Dashboards
- Tiles
DataSets:Here we have a collection of data that Power BI uses for creating the reports and visuals.you can export the data from various data sources and use it together in one single frame in Power BI following the sample data set image.
Reports:Reports let you create many visualizations, on multiple pages if necessary, and let you arrange those visualizations in whatever way best tells your story. For example you can create reports based on your monthly profit in your organization or you can check the profit in your garment shops etc,Following image shows you the Power BI Report for a garments factory.
Dashboards:When you're ready to share a report, or a collection of visualizations, you create a dashboard.A dashboard must fit on a single page, often called a canvas You can share dashboards with other users or groups, who can then interact with your dashboards when they're in the Power BI service or on their mobile device.
Tiles:In Power BI, a tile is a single visualization on a dashboard. It's the rectangular box that holds an individual visual. In the following image, you see one tile, which is also surrounded by other tiles.
